The V Century Bridge was built in 1991 to celebrate the universal exhibition of 1992. With a main span of 265 meters long and almost 2 kilometers of total length, it is considered as one of the largest in Spain; it has also two 120-meter-high towers and four vehicle lines. It was designed by engineers Fernández Ordóñez and Julio Martínez Calzón.
This bridge was named in honor of the fifth Centenary of the Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. The V Century Bridge is also known as “Paquito” by Sevillian residents, because of its similarity to the Golden Gate Bridge.
