Plaza de Am?rica (America Square)

The America square, located in The Maria Luisa Park, was built up with the same purpose as the rest of the park, that is, the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929. Its designer was Anbal González, a Sevillian architect.

The Plaza America its about 200 meters long and it covers an area of 14.000 m2. It was built in the regionalistic style that means a combination of Mudjar, Gothic and Renaissance styles. Materials used for its construction consisted of bricks and ceramics.

Plaza de America - America Square You can admire beautiful arcade passages, broad promenades and a water channel around the square with 4 decorated upper-bridges, which represent the four kings that formed the back then Spanish kingdom such as Castilla, Leon, Navarra and Arragonia. Everything is composed of splendid tiles and mosaics. In case youre tired you can use one of the benches situated there. Each of the 48 booths, which are installed around the square, show a historical picture, a profile of a celebrity or a map that represents a certain Spanish province.

Buildings located in the square currently house different public and government institutions.
